Satin
Satin has a smooth, shiny surface. It works well for fitted dresses that need to hold their shape, and it comes in many colours.
Chiffon
This light, see-through fabric creates a flowing, fairy-tale look. Designers often use layers of chiffon to make prom dresses, stocked by firms like prom dresses. It is less see-through, but it can tear easily so needs to be handled carefully.
Tulle

Knit Jersey
This stretchy fabric fits close to the body and moves with you. While often used for casual clothes, newer knits can look elegant enough for a prom.
